Casa Tropica Villas: The Best Private Resort in Laguna

Having lived in San Mateo, Rizal for over 20 years, Pansol (Calamba, Laguna) is one of the places that comes to my mind whenever I crave for some breath of fresh air. Situated at the foot of Mount Makiling, this town is known for its hot-spring resorts. If you are looking for a little break from the metro, my blogger friends and I recently stayed in Casa Tropica Villas, a newly-opened private resort in Laguna. Read on if you want to know more about it!

About Casa Tropica Villas

Just an hour away from Manila, Casa Tropica is a newly-opened modern tropical villa in Calamba, Laguna. “A beautiful Balinese villa,” that’s what I immediately thought of when my friends and I arrived at the resort. From the pretty imposing thatched roofs to the smooth concrete walls, wood elements and tropical plants, I felt like I was not in Pansol anymore. According to Reese Tirona Rojas and Carlo Rojas, owners of Casa Tropica Villas, the materials used in building the resort will weather in and blend harmoniously with nature.

It was really incredible how the architects managed to separate Casa Tropica from the rest of Pansol.

Safe and sanitized

Adapting to a new “normal,” my friends and I were greeted by a resort staff donning a personal protective equipment (PPE). The staff conducted a mandatory temperature check. Then we were asked to proceed to the disinfection station (SaniMat and SaniStand). Prior to our arrival, we were asked to answer a health declaration form as required by DOH and the LGU.

Since the start of pandemic, I have become very particular with how things are being cleaned and sanitized. At Casa Tropica, I learned that aside from their regular cleaning routine, they have also incorporated advanced sanitation protocols. All areas, especially high touch surfaces, are sanitized using Endosan (a highly effective disinfectant) through misting, fogging, wiping and mopping. They also use UV light sanitation for the remote controls, bedrooms and bathrooms. Click this link if you want to learn more about the resort’s covid guidelines.

Pet-friendly Resort

As a pet-owner myself, my dogs and cats are an extension of the family. Just like family members, it’s hard to leave them behind when I travel. Good thing, this private resort in Laguna allows 1 big dog or 2 small dogs/cats, with a minimal 1,500 peso pet surcharge to cover the costs of extra cleaning and vacuuming.

Please inform the resort staff if your pets will swim in the pool. If they do, they will start draining the swimming pool by 10:00 AM of your check-out date. This is to ensure that there is enough time to do extra disinfection of the pool for the next guest. Read more about the Pet-friendly Policy

All-natural hot spring water

Casa Tropica boasts a relaxing private pool with 100% all-natural hot spring water from Mount Makiling. According to the owners, the pool water is changed after every guests to ensure the safety of the next. We actually saw the swimming pool being filled up when we arrived at the resort. If you are curious about the water temperature, it was warm to hot (definitely not lukewarm).

Stylish, tropical style bedrooms

We were booked in the Diwata Villa, which currently has a sleeping capacity of up to 25 pax (new COVID-19 guidelines of 50% occupancy only). There are 4 fully air-conditioned rooms in this villa equipped with comfortable beds, pillows, sheets, bath towels, TV, wifi (PLDT Fibr connection up to 30 mbps) and ensuite bathrooms with hot & cold shower.

Project Gora tip: If you book the Diwata Villa, get the room facing the Maria Makiling mural. You will see the pool from there as well as Mount Makiling. I swear the views in that room was amazing, especially when it rains!

Food and drinks

Casa Tropica does not have its own in-house restaurant. However, there are plenty of restaurants outside Pansol where you can order and have it delivered. Please ask the friendly resort staff for contact information. Alternatively, you may bring your own food and drinks. There is no corkage fee except if you bring in a professional caterer with tables and chairs setup. This will incur a 1,500 peso catering corkage fee for additional use of facilities.

We wanted to do a boodle fight but since we are facing a pandemic, we opted for individually packed binalots instead.

How to book Casa Tropica

You may book the Diwata Villa or Lambana Villa (opening soon) thru Casa Tropica’s website. You may also use AirBnb which offers one of the widest selections of accommodation within the Philippines and worldwide. I personally use it for my travels inside and outside the country. I also use it if I want a little staycation away from my city.

Once you reach the National Highway in Calamba, look for Monte Vista and Southwinds Resort on the right then Iglesia ni Cristo on your left. You can get off the bus and follow the Casa Tropica signage.
