How to get to Fuji Shibazakura Venue from Tokyo

In Japan, there are countless local festivals held every year in almost every towns and cities. One of them is Fuji Shibazakura Festival, which is being held from mid-April to late May of every year. There are many ways to get into the festival venue but this post will only focus on how to get there from Tokyo.

Option # 1 (Direct Rapid Trains from Shinjuku)
There are various direct train options from Shinjuku, which operates on weekends and public holidays. The JR Chuo Line has Holiday Express Fujisan, Yamanashi Fuji and Fujisan Trains, which go directly to Lake Kawaguchiko in approximately 70 minutes. Once you get in Kawaguchiko Station, buy a ticket (2,000 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for children) to the festival which covers round trip bus fare (Shibazakura Liner) and entrance fee. Travel time is 30 minutes.

Option # 2 (Local Trains with one transfer from Shinjuku)
Take the JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku Station to Otsuki Station. Travel time is approximately 55 minutes and one way train fare is 1,320 yen. From Otsuki, board another train (Fujikyu Railway Line) to Kawaguchiko Station. Travel time is 55 minutes and one way fare is 1,140 yen. Please note, the train from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko is not covered by JR Pass. Once you get in Kawaguchiko Station, buy a ticket (2,000 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for children) to the festival which covers round trip bus fare (Shibazakura Liner) and entrance fee. Travel time is 30 minutes.

Option # 3 (Direct Bus from Shinjuku)
There is only one bus that goes directly to the festival site. The direct Chuo Highway Bus operates only during the Shibazakura Festival period. Travel time is approximately 2 hours and round trip bus fare is about 6,400 yen.

Option # 4 (Local Bus from Tokyo)
There are various local buses from Tokyo that go to Kawaguchiko Station. From Shinjuku, Akihabara, Tokyo Station, and Shibuya, travel time is about 2 hours and 20 minutes. Once you get in Kawaguchiko Station, buy a ticket (2,000 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for children) to the festival which covers round trip bus fare (Shibazakura Liner) and entrance fee. Travel time is 30 minutes.
