Can't decide where to eat in Pasig? Try Buffalo Swing Cafe

Thursday, November 30, 2017

Buffalo Wings have been a guilty pleasure of mine for ages and if I had to rank my favorite food indulgences, it would certainly make the top five. I am such a fan of it that when an offer to review a restaurant specializing in chicken wings came up, I immediately accepted the deal. While there is a growing list of specialty restaurants focused on chicken wings, and having sampled most of them, will this small unassuming restaurant in Pasig make it to my guilty pleasure food list?
my first restaurant review ever!
Restaurant Ambience
Aside from the quality of food and menu, ambience can influence a customer’s experience while they are dining. When I go out to a restaurant for a meal, I go for the full experience, not just the food itself. I don’t normally dine at fast food restaurants because of the quick turnover of customers and their system that does not encourage people to hang around. I don’t like getting stares from other customers to hurry up and finish my food. For me, eating is a ritual.
Hello bes Franco! Check out his travel blog right here.
I was pleasantly surprised at Buffalo Swing. Despite being situated at one of the busiest roads in Pasig, the restaurant was able to lessen the unwanted sound that comes from vehicles passing by. There was a flat screen HD TV playing the latest music videos but at a moderate volume, which was not distracting. The dimmer lighting was really good as this brings people closer together (I hate bright lighting normally found in a typical fast food restaurant). The restaurant has this a-la retro diner interior, which I really love. It would have been better if they had a black and white checkered floor to complete the American diner vibe. I also think replacing their chairs and tables is needed; black tables and red chairs would look great.

Great selection on the menu
Chicken Wings
The menu is extensive for a chicken wings restaurant; anything with more than 10 dishes is considered a feat for me. Taking wing specials seriously, Buffalo Swing specializes in classic Buffalo wings available in varying degrees of heat (hot, wild and blazing). We were served the Hot Buffalo wings which were cooked right and not overly sauced, breaded and fried, hot and meaty. On my next visit, I will definitely try the Wild and Blazing wings!

Spicy Salted Egg Chicken
Spicy Salted Egg Chicken Wings
Out of 4 different chicken wings we have tried, I fell in love with Spicy Salted Egg Chicken wings. There was this very distinct flavor that’s very Filipino, which I really like. The salted egg flavor, which I believe was done in-house, holds up to the crispy chicken wings well. The amount of salt (or MSG?) did not overpower the taste of chicken. The level of spiciness and amount of curry leaves were just right. That pound of Spicy Salted Egg Chicken wings was mind blowing and you definitely get your money’s worth here! (Chicken Wings: 5 pcs - 145 pesos, 10 pcs - 275 pesos, 20 pcs - 535 pesos, & 40 pcs - 1,045 pesos)
Salt and Pepper Chicken Poppers
For me, a fantastic pasta is simple but full of flavor and is made with unique ingredients.  No hotdogs. No ground pork. No super sweet Pinoy style sauce. Buffalo Swing carries the flavors of Italy, America and the Philippines through natural, fresh ingredients. They offer different kinds of sauce, like red tomato-based sauce, white cream-based sauce, or simply olive oil. We were able to try their Spicy Shrimp Pasta, Spicy Salted Egg Pasta, Gourmet Tuyo Pasta, and Bacon Tomato Pasta.

Gourmet Tuyo Pasta
Buffalo Swing’s Gourmet Tuyo Pasta is good stuff made with quality, which has a soul-satisfying flavours of Tuyo (Philippine Dried Fish known as a ‘poor man’s dish’), olive oil, garlic, onion, tomatoes, and a generous amount of parmesan cheese. And because I personally love olive oil-based pasta, I think this dish is entirely worthy of its claim as the restaurant’s best seller pasta. If you haven’t had tuyo yet in your life, then you are definitely missing out.

Red sauce. All cheese pizza. Thin-crust. Loaded with meat and veggies. Buffalo Swing is a pizza wonderland. Their pizzas are made with delicious flatbread and fresh ingredients expertly hand-crafted so every bite is flavorful and delicious. We were able to try the All Cheese Pizza (285 pesos), Ranch Buffalo Pizza (270 pesos), and Cajun Spice Pizza (295 pesos).

Out of the 3 pizzas we have tried, Ranch Buffalo Pizza was my favorite. The spicy dough took the pizza to the next level. Onions, spicy sauce, cheese, basil and chickenwire nicely added to the pizza dough.

What can I say?
I know it’s too early to rave but after that first visit, I’m left with a great impression of Buffalo Swing, a full stomach, and an additional entry to my guilty pleasure list. I’m just a bit sad that they are located in Pasig, (I’m from San Mateo, Rizal), and with all the year-end get-together that I need to go to, I would need to wait until January for my next visit. Hopefully, their Buffalo wings and Spicy Salted Egg wings will be as good as I remember. ^_^
