Dear Milet,

Otanjoubi Omedetou! You just turned 25 today! It's going to be a tough year for you so I figure you need some reminders.

Reunite with old friends. You've shared memories with them, both happy and sad, and it alone makes life worthwhile. A lot has changed but friends will be friends until the end. Sometimes reuniting with an old friend is the best therapy.

Remember that bucket list you posted on your blog? Keep it. Don't be disappointed if there's a lot you have not done yet. If life expectancy for females in the Philippines published by the World Health Organization is accurate, then you still have 48 years to accomplish everything.

You believe that traveling is not a waste of money. Travel to the places you really want to. It will be hard if you have kids to consider (and mortgages and clothes to wash and full time jobs and wifey duties). When you travel, immerse yourself in local culture. Nothing will happen if you just take photos. Preserve the moment in your mind not in your camera's memory card. Never hate a certain place just because it did not live up to your expectations. Be open-minded.

Spend quality time with your parents. Go on a vacation at least once a year. They still believe vacation is a luxury. Just book that damn ticket and take them out of town. Visit your relatives in the province more often. I know you have a busy schedule but take time to see them instead of checking them out on Facebook.

Invest and spend your money wisely. You made a good decision when you bought a life insurance and an investment plan. You may feel burdened because you are the only one supporting your family, but that's alright. Isn't is great that you are able to support them at an early age? Stop using your credit card for unnecessary expenses. Pay your bills on time.

Don't waste your time with the people who are not good for you. Stay away from gossipers and negative people. Remember, negativity is contagious.

I know you are annoyed when people keeps asking if you will get married soon, or if you have a boyfriend. I know you hate getting "Oh-you-must-be-so-lonely-look" from others. CHILL OUT ALREADY. You are still young. Don't rush. Innate fear of being alone can lead to bad choices.

Fall in love, move on and forgive. I know you more than anyone else in the world. You tend to hold onto feelings specially if there is no closure. Do not cling onto things that cause you pain and suffering. Learn to let go. If you like someone, do not lurk or stalk him online! You know how social media works right? It makes it easier to fall in love with someone who never really existed.

You are not a failure. Repeat until fade. You are not a failure. Don't get pressured if people frequently ask why you did not pursue nursing profession. Or why you don't consider working abroad. You are employed in a stable and good company. You know how good it feels to earn money to help your family.

Thank God for the gift of life. Thank God for the times you had plenty and for the times you had nothing. You owe everything to God.

Milet, I know you will live a good life. Never measure your success with anyone. I know life did not turn out the way you envisioned it when you were still in college, but you certainly lived. Don't pressure yourself for not having it all figured out. Life is not a race. You will become the person that you are destined to be. Trust me.

I have a lot of reminders for myself! :) Yes, I know it will be tough this year, but at the same time, I feel something great will happen. #excited A big thanks to ALL for your birthday wishes! Thanks for the birthday greetings from everyone who noticed my name today in the upper right corner of their Facebook home page!
