Island Hopping in Siargao (Naked, Daku and Guyam Islands)

Note: All photos were taken using a GoPro Hero Silver. Believe it or not, no editing was done in these photos. Thanks DJ for letting us use your GoPro! :)

In a tropical country made up of 7,107 islands like the Philippines, it is impossible not to find a private patch of paradise. Before coming to Siargao, I did not have high expectations for its beaches because the island has established itself as a surfing destination. But as soon as I set foot on the powdery white sand and dip into the crystal clear turquoise water of its 3 islands, I never want to leave. Seriously.

Another gorgeous day at General Luna, Siargao Island.
It was our third day in Siargao when my friends and I decided to do island hopping. There are plenty of boatmen in Siargao that offer island tours, so you won’t really need to make a reservation. Some surf resorts also offer this tour, which normally include tour guides and lunch. In our case, we decided to arrange the island tour with a boatman we met the day prior (too bad I can’t remember his name), which costs 1,500 pesos good for 5 to 6 people.

waiting for the Naked Island to reveal itself...
Our first stop was Naked Island (Pansukian). It’s not really an island but a white sandbank, so there were no coconut trees and other vegetation. Nevertheless, its pristine white sand and azure waters were great! We spent an hour here and took plenty of photographs.

 and it did not disappoint!

Naked Island has no shade so make sure to bring enough sunblock!

Closing in on the gorgeous white-sand beach of Daku Island.
Our second destination was Daku Island, one of the best islands in the Philippines. This island is my favorite among the 3 because the quality of the beach is perfect. I absolutely love its calm turquoise waters, powdery white sand, and coconut palm-fringed shoreline.

Daku Island is a must-see for any visitor to Siargao

Daku Island easily became my favorite island in the Philippines!
Inhabited by only a number of local families, the island is a great place to relax and unwind. You can rent a Nipa Hut on the beach and have the local fishermen cook up some of their fresh catch. You can also buy buko (fresh coconut juice) for refreshment! If you are feeling adventurous, there are a few good surf breaks at Daku Island.

I don't know if this dog lives in the island. Probably.

Several Nipa Huts are available for rental.

Jerome got dizzy during the boat ride. Wahaha!

Just five minutes from Daku Island is the idyllic Guyam Island.
After spending some time in Daku Island, we decided to move along and check out Guyam Island, an uninhabited islet located merely 2 kilometers from the main island of Siargao. Its sand may not be as fine as in Daku Island, but Guyam is still a great place for swimming and beach bumming.

Again.. the island is all to ourselves!

 so pretty, no?

I wish to see this view everyday! So relaxing!

Sunset is not in this part of Siargao but the sunlight shining through clouds can still be seen in General Luna

SaveSave Calaguas Island used to be the top 1 on my list of the best beaches/islands in the Philippines, but Siargao Island easily claimed that spot! In my opinion, island-hopping in Siargao is highly underrated. It was hard to believe that the 3 islands of Naked, Daku and Guyam can give beach lovers a fantastic beach holiday without going too far. The islands are just 15 minutes away from General Luna, so you won’t have to spend too much time traveling. If you are confident with your kayaking skills (and swimming), then you go to the islands on your own. We saw two couples kayaking and it looked very enjoyable!
