Disneyland Paris | A Childhood Dream

Wednesday, June 08, 2016

Ever since I was a young little girl, one of my greatest dreams was to go to Disneyland. I wanted to meet Mickey Mouse, my absolute favourite. Disney films and television programs, which showed colourful and adorable characters have been the main reasons why I would love to go to Disneyland. I vividly remember my younger self whenever I watch Disney films and it never failed to make me feel good.

When I was in college, one of my classmates went to Disneyland Hongkong. If I am not mistaken, it was in 2005 when it was just opened. She said it was one of the most memorable experiences in her life. I was so envious. "I wanted to go too", I thought to myself. But due to certain circumstances (hello tuition fee, hello school textbooks, etc.), my parents will never spend money on Disneyland and travel.

As I got older, my fondness for Disney somehow faded. I was no longer a little girl and it seemed ridiculous to actively pursue my Disney dream. Just recently, I thought of planning my 2017 Europe trip and I already made a list of the places I would like to visit. As I was browsing the net for popular destinations in Paris, Disneyland Paris popped up. I never knew there is a Disneyland in Paris!
And I know that dream will be realised someday :)

According to an article I read online, Disneyland Paris had trouble adapting to the local culture of France and Europe when it opened in 1992. As the years went by, the management of Disneyland was able to integrate local culture while remaining Disney. The castles in the theme park were created by master glassmakers using the same techniques that were used during the Middle Ages in Europe. For example, the castle of Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France was used as an inspiration for Rapunzel's castle. How cool is that?!

So, I have decided to include Disneyland Paris on my tentative itinerary! I am very excited to finally realize my childhood dream. I can’t wait to escape from reality into a realm of fantasy, get a chance to relax and reminisce my childhood memories. After doing this blog post, I’m now more determined than ever to see this bucket list item be crossed off in 2017. I trust the universe will make it happen! :)
